ShiftSignOut
About

A closed door is the feature.

Most places where clinicians talk online are open to anyone who claims a credential. ShiftSignOut checks.

Who ShiftSignOut is for

ShiftSignOut is a professional community for credential-verified healthcare professionals practising in the United States. Membership is open to physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, registered and licensed practical nurses, allied health professionals, therapists, technicians, paramedics and EMTs, pharmacists, dentists and veterinarians — and to healthcare students, who hold a clearly marked student account with reduced access.

It is not open to patients, journalists, researchers, recruiters, staffing agencies, vendors or marketers. That is not a moderation policy that can be worked around; there is no route to an account without a credential that can be checked against a source.

The reason is what it lets people say. A nurse describing what a shift actually did to them, a resident asking a question that reveals what they do not yet know, somebody weighing whether to leave the bedside — none of that gets said in a room where the person reading might be a patient's family member, a manager, or a reporter. The verification is not a status symbol. It is what makes the conversation possible.

How verification works

Most credentials are checked automatically against a public source — the NPI registry for clinicians who hold one, or a state licensing board. That usually resolves within minutes of signing up.

Where no public registry exists, or where the registry cannot be tied confidently to the person signing up, a human reviews a photograph of a work badge or student ID against the name and credential given. That normally takes under 48 hours. You can look around the app while you wait, without being able to post.

Badge photographs are deleted once a case is resolved. They exist to answer one question, once, and are not kept afterwards.

Two ways to use it

There is an iOS app and a full web version, sharing one account and the same content. The web version needs no install, which matters on a ward computer you do not own.

What we do not do

No advertising. No selling or brokering of member data. No third-party analytics, no advertising identifier, no location tracking, and no access to your contacts or health data. Anonymous areas of the app are anonymous in the database rather than by policy: a confession has no author column, so there is nothing that could later be joined back to a person.

ShiftSignOut is not a HIPAA-covered service and is not a place for patient information. It is not a source of medical advice and is not a substitute for your own clinical judgement.

Who built it

ShiftSignOut is built by a practising physician assistant, for colleagues. It began as the app that did not exist after a bad shift.
